We've all had questions regarding CrossFit. Read below for some answers to frequently asked questions which may help you figure some of this stuff out! If you don't see the info you need, please feel free to contact us or drop in and we'll answer your questions in person!

What is CrossFit?


CrossFit is an extremely efficient and effective way to get into world-class shape. Our workouts consist of constantly varied, functional movements (like pushups and pullups, deadlifts and squats, gymnastics, kettlebells, running, rowing, and olympic lifting), executed at high intensity in a group setting. Essentially, a fun, friendly, yet high-intensity workout mixed with weights.

Where is CrossFit 513 United?


We are located at 327 West 4th Street in Downtown Cincinnati, just before the I-75 North ramp. Currently we have street parking only, but are in the process of securing parking spaces for our member’s convenience soon.

Do I need experience or some minimum level of fitness?


No! CrossFit is for anyone, regardless of age or fitness level. Our vision is to have members ranging from professional athletes to grandparents and desk jockeys with barely enough hand-eye coordination to use a mouse. In short, if you care about health, real-world performance, or just want to look better naked, CrossFit is for you!

What if I’m REALLY out of shape and I’m slightly terrified?

That's OK! Three months from now you'll look back and wish you had started earlier. We are experienced coaches and crossfitters. We have helped many people like you, YES YOU, start their fitness journey. Not only did they survive but they are now in great shape and loving their CrossFit lifestyle. 

I have/had an injury. Can I still do CrossFit?


While we are not physicians (and we highly recommend you discuss any workout program with yours), many of the athletes we have trained in the past have successfully used CrossFit to rehabilitate from injuries. Because people continue to move, work, and play in the real world regardless of injury history, we believe the best route to long-term health is to learn perfect form on functional movements, and to slowly build strength in those movements, rather than to avoid them altogether. Our coaches are always happy to work with you to scale and substitute exercises and tailor workouts to your abilities. That said, we cannot offer you specific medical advice, and advise that you consult your physician before starting this (or any other) exercise program.

I am a Woman, will CrossFit make me "too bulky"?


NO. It will make you sexy. 

What happens in the Free Beginners Class?


The Free Beginners Class on Saturday at 10 am, contains a quick summary of the concepts behind CrossFit. (Functional Movements, Constantly Varied at High Intesity). You’ll then learn perfect form on a couple of simple, functional movements, which you’ll piece together into a real CrossFit workout, to give you a taste of our approach. 

I have not done CrossFit, but I’m really fit and would like to skip Foundations classes and just sign up for Workout of the Day classes. Can I do that?


The vast majority of the time the answer here is no, however, situations may be looked at on a case by case basis when time permits. If you can demonstrate competency in the foundational movements you may be able to "test out" of the course. We require almost everyone to take Foundations to ensure all of our members have built a solid base of safe and effective movements. That also makes WOD classes better for everyone. Trust us, you'll still get all of the sweating and work you want out of this course.

I just relocated to Cincinnati, but I’ve been CrossFitting for a while elsewhere. Can I attend a class?

Definitely! Experienced CrossFitters are always welcome to join us for any of our normal classes. Shoot us an email to let us know when you will be stopping by.

I’m just visiting Cincinnati, but I belong to a CrossFit gym back at home. Can I drop in for a WOD class?


We absolutely allow drop-ins but we do require you to email us ahead of time to let us know you're coming. 

What do I need to bring?


Just yourself. And basic ‘workout clothes’: shorts or sweats, a t-shirt, sneakers and a water bottle. We provide everything else.

Do you offer personal training?


Yes. You can email us directly for rates.

Do I have to become a member to do personal training?
No. Personal Training is available to both members and non-members at the same price.
Do you take credit cards, cash, and personal checks?


Yes, we accept cash, and all major credit cards including AMEX. You can even have a receipt in case you have a health insurance plan that subsidizes gym membership costs.

Do you sell t-shirts?


Of course. Come on down and buy something awesome.

Do you have showers?


Yes! We have a fully stocked shower with all of the personal hygiene supplies you need, just in case you forget yours. Just be sure to bring a towel!
